Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year at Conyers Middle School. This year brings a curriculum filled with some concepts that your child is sure to grasp with committment, motivation, and success. We begin this year with the Number System. Our student's curriculum will consist of 7 units of study.
A. Click on each unit to see what your child is responsible for knowing.
B. Check out the links for homework to keep track of what your child is responsible for doing
each night at home. Websites that might be helpful are listed as well.
C. Please keep up to date with your child's grades by accessing Parent Connect. At least 2 grades per week will be
assigned. Because of the rigorous pace in which we will be teaching and learning in this 6th grade year, it is mandatory for all
students to come prepared with pencil and paper to class each day. Students are also required to have one spiral notebook per semester, colored pencils, glue sticks, and loose-leaf paper. Students will be issued a consumable textbook which will be housed in the classroom. Pages will be torn out and placed in the child's notebook as needed. Students should bring their binder/notebook to class each day, no exceptions. All classwork assignments are due on the school day that they are assigned; however, students are allowed a chance to turn in assignments late with penalty.
As you can see if you click on each unit's link, we will move through concepts at a quick pace - a pace determined by the middle school curriculum. In this regard, attendance and homework are necessities to ensure your child is successful in 6th grade and can continue on to 7th grade in the next school term. The Links to the left of this page contain valuable information that parents can use to help their students at home.
*Some of the things that we may do in this
class include but are not limited to:
Cornell Notes, Daily Warmups, Pair/Group Collaboration,
Think/Pair/Share, Think-Alouds, Manipulatives, Oral Questioning,
Homework, Quizzes, Tests, Creative
Pneumonics/Songs, Practice, Writing Across the Curriculum, Performance Tasks, and
Projects
